Uterine Fibroid Embolization

Uterine artery embolization is a procedure in which an vascular surgeon uses a catheter to deliver small particles that block the blood supply to the uterine body. The procedure is done for the treatment of uterine fibroids and adenomyosis. The procedure involves inserting a catheter through the groin, maneuvering it through the uterin artery, and injecting the embolic agent into the arteries that supply blood to the uterus and fibroids. As the fibroids die and begin to shrink, the uterus fully recovers.
